For marathoners, this race is appealing because it’s the only one of its kind on the Navajo Nation.

But the event also holds a great deal of promise for those who aren’t long-distance runners.

For families from the surrounding Navajo community, activities include a Health & Wellness Expo, 10K trail run/walk and 1K Fun Run for younger children.

We’re trying to raise $8,000 to buy bike helmets for kids living in poverty on the Navajo Nation. Please help this great cause. We need volunteers to run or walk for Eve’s Fund.

Navajo children in the southwestern United States face enormous obstacles in their lives, including poverty, domestic violence and abuse. Preventable injuries in this region are three times the national average.

Eve’s Fund is trying to raise $8,000 by December 1, 2011 to buy bike helmets for 1,000 Navajo kids. Many of these children share bikes or borrow them from recreational programs, but helmets are in short supply.

An $8 donation (the price of a good helmet) could prevent a brain or spinal cord injury…or even save a life!

If you are planning to run or walk in any kind of race in the next two months, please consider raising money for Eve’s Fund at the same time.

Whether you’re signed up for a short fun run with your children…a 5K…10K or even a longer race, you can celebrate your accomplishment and give the race an added purpose by telling your friends and asking them to make a tax-deductible contribution to our Running for Eve’s Fund Challenge.

To donate to our cause, just click the big orange DONATE button on this page. (Remember, just $8 will buy a helmet!)

To help even more, click the JOIN THE TEAM button to get your own page. You can then invite your friends and family to donate.

Now that summer has arrived, the program is in full swing.

Students at the Bluebird Recreational Camp learned why gardening is so important as part of a healthy lifestyle. They also took responsibility for planting, watering and maintaining the greenhouse at Red Mesa High School.

Calling themselves the Green Thumbs Club, the campers—who ranged from age 10 to 17—learned that gardening in the harsh Four Corners climate is possible.
