Hope in the New Year
As we look ahead to the New Year with optimism and hope, we’ll continue our dedication to literacy, injury prevention, mental health and education initiatives for young Native Americans.
- Teach 2,500-3,000 school children how to prevent traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries through our effective ThinkFirst Navajo Injury Prevention Education Program.
- Train additional VIP (Voices for Injury Prevention) speakers—all Native injury survivors—on proven methods of teaching injury prevention.
- Distribute 500 youth safety helmets in combination with safety essay competitions.
Running for Eve’s Fund Challenge
We’re trying to raise $8,000 to buy bike helmets for kids living in poverty on the Navajo Nation. Please help this great cause. We need volunteers to run or walk for Eve’s Fund.
Navajo children in the southwestern United States face enormous obstacles in their lives, including poverty, domestic violence and abuse. Preventable injuries in this region are three times the national average.
Eve’s Fund is trying to raise $8,000 by December 1, 2011 to buy bike helmets for 1,000 Navajo kids. Many of these children share bikes or borrow them from recreational programs, but helmets are in short supply.
An $8 donation (the price of a good helmet) could prevent a brain or spinal cord injury…or even save a life!
If you are planning to run or walk in any kind of race in the next two months, please consider raising money for Eve’s Fund at the same time.
Whether you’re signed up for a short fun run with your children…a 5K…10K or even a longer race, you can celebrate your accomplishment and give the race an added purpose by telling your friends and asking them to make a tax-deductible contribution to our Running for Eve’s Fund Challenge.
To donate to our cause, just click the big orange DONATE button on this page. (Remember, just $8 will buy a helmet!)
To help even more, click the JOIN THE TEAM button to get your own page. You can then invite your friends and family to donate.
Navajo youth learn about healthy lifestyles from the ground up
This spring, Eve’s Fund helped launch the “From the Ground Up” Gardening Program in the Red Mesa Arizona community along with the school district and Four Corners Regional Health Center.
Calling themselves the Green Thumbs Club, the campers—who ranged from age 10 to 17—learned that gardening in the harsh Four Corners climate is possible.
