November is our favorite month…we come together
November is our favorite month for lots of reasons. It is a time of reflections, memories, celebrations, honoring traditions and strengthening family and community. It is a month in which we come together. Please read on as we share what makes November special to Eve’s Fund.
We support and honor Native American Heritage throughout November
Each November, during Native American Heritage Month we pay tribute to the rich ancestry, traditions, culture and contributions of all Indigenous Americans— a nationwide celebration formalized by the bill signed in 1990 by President George H. W. Bush.
Throughout our country, in schools, universities, and hometowns, tribal and non-tribal organizations come together in celebration and in support. This month, through our Eve’s Fund Community Initiatives Program, which is funded by generous gifts from the Friends of Eve’s Fund, we are making financial gifts to several independent, indigenous, non-profit publications which serve Indian Country. These independent online news organizations provide an informational lifeline to thousands by sharing essential news and information as well as through in-depth investigative articles.
In commemoration of Native American Heritage Month, and in gratitude to these organizations for keeping Indigenous communities informed at all times, including during this pandemic, Eve’s Fund is proud to be making donations to the following:

This important article from Native News Online reminds us the importance of celebrating Native People throughout the year, not just in November: https://nativenewsonline.net/opinion/native-people-should-be-celebrated-beyond-november.
“O’odham Blessings”
The above photo, entitled “O’odham Blessings,” taken by Eve’s Fund friend and Navajo youth leader, Graham Tome Beyáál, perfectly embodies the intention of Native American Heritage Month and honors the contributions of Native traditions and communities. In the background you see majestic Shiprock Mountain, which plays a significant role in Navajo religion, myth and tradition. In the foreground, gently flows the San Juan River, a tributary of the Colorado River. These landmarks frame the powerful subject of the photo, a beautiful hand-crafted gourd, which was a gift to Graham from the Tohono O’odham Nation.
Gourds have had many uses in Native communities, depending on the culture, but in this photo, Graham is using it in a ceremonial way, to bless and celebrate his roots and cultural heritage. Click here to learn more about uses for gourds.
We believe this photo highlights an important teaching of Chief Seattle: “All things are bound together. All things connect. Whatever happens to the earth, happens to the children of the earth.”
Thank you, Graham, for sharing your beautiful photo!
We come together to give thanks on November 25
Coming together at Thanksgiving
Whether we are of Indigenous heritage or descended from more recent immigrants to these shores, the great American holiday of Thanksgiving brings us all together in celebration. Regardless of our ethnic heritage or religious traditions, Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate our family and our community and the bounty of this great land we call home.
We all pause and give thanks for the meal we share with our loved ones, for their love and support, and for the many things each of us, in our own circumstances, have to be grateful for. We at Eve’s Fund are grateful for YOU and for your support of our important work. Thank you at Thanksgiving Time and throughout the year!
Ya’at’eeh Nihídine’é!! Happy Thanksgiving from everyone at Eve’s Fund. Relax, enjoy and stay safe.
