On #GivingTuesday until the end of 2021, please help Eve’s Fund raise critically needed funds in support of Native teen suicide prevention programs in Indian Country. Our goal is to raise $10,000 to help fund a series of suicide prevention workshops and retreats for vulnerable teens on the Navajo Nation, to be conducted by our community partner, Native H.O.P.E., a program of Native Pride.
Hope is in short supply, especially at this time of year.
Suicide is a public health crisis in Native American communities where it is the second leading cause of death among youth. Native American adolescents have the highest rate of depression and suicide among all ethnic groups in the U.S., a dire situation made even worse by the pandemic. Eve’s Fund is very concerned about these sobering, painful statistics, and is joining forces with other community organizations to provide prevention, intervention and treatment resources.
We need your help to accomplish this urgent mission.
Native H.O.P.E. is a peer–to-peer counseling (youth helping youth) curriculum, developed by Clayton Small, PhD, that focuses on suicide prevention and related risk factors such as substance abuse, domestic violence, bullying, trauma, grief, loss and depression. This strengths-based approach incorporates culture, spirituality and humor, and it educates individuals about the warning signs of suicide.
The young people who will participate in these workshops are from rural communities with poor infrastructures, including inadequate housing, water and access to the Internet. Many of these communities also have under-resourced health systems, with extremely limited access to mental health services. It’s no surprise that residents of such communities have underlying physical and mental health disparities, a situation made worse by Covid-19.
Your Giving Tuesday donation to Eve’s Fund for Native American Health Initiatives will enable us to bring hope to at-risk teens and help prevent suicide among these struggling youth through our community education partnerships in Indian Country.
Please join us on #GivingTuesday 2021, as we kick off our year-end holiday fundraising campaign! Your donation will be part of the biggest giving event of the year. On #GivingTuesday, people around the globe come together for a common purpose, Paying It Forward and giving to causes that are near and dear to their hearts.
