One of the most beautiful, sacred places on the Navajo Nation is in the Monument Valley Tribal Park. The photo above captures the West Mitten, East Mitten and Merrick Buttes just before sunrise. When viewed from the south, the buttes appear to be two giant mittens with their thumbs facing inwards. The Diné (Navajo) have lived in and around Monument Valley for centuries, and it is a sacred part of their homeland. To the Navajo, Monument Valley, or Bii’ Ndzisgaiimeaning “valley of the rocks,” is a place imbued with spiritual significance, home to many Navajo legends, stories, and traditions. Dear Friends of Eve’s Fund,
Eve’s Fund is starting the New Year with Balance, Beauty and Harmony. For Eve’s Fund, there is no image more fitting than the one above to symbolize the dawn of a new day, a fresh beginning, and the promise of a new year. If you have never had a chance to visit Monument Valley, I hope you will add this breathtaking experience to your bucket list—it is truly a place of inspiration and renewal.
I am writing to express our gratitude for your interest in our mission and programs. We feel privileged to have had your involvement on this journey with us, which marks two decades in 2025. As we approach our 20th year, I hope you will continue believing in and championing our work together. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of our supporters, we have accomplished so much—but there is still more to be done.
Once again, this past year we have been deeply moved by the resilience of the Navajo and other Indigenous people served by our programs. We have also been inspired by the outpouring of generosity from individuals and organizations who believe in our mission. Both have allowed us to work towards the vision that Dr. Bob Crowell and I perceived and launched in 2005 to honor our beloved daughter, Eve. Her spirit and memory remain our guiding light, nearly two decades later.
As a new year dawns over the iconic Mitten Buttes, I send you my heartfelt wishes for balance, beauty and harmony in 2025 and always. Please stay safe and stay in touch with us.
With endless gratitude,
Barbara Crowell Roy,
Eve’s mom & President
PS – We look forward to sharing our new website with you by the end of January and announcing the names of 19 scholarship recipients from Navajo Preparatory School.
