In June, Eve’s Fund for Native American Health Initiatives proudly renewed its sponsorship of Camp Adventure, a specialized summer day camp for children with special needs, in partnership with the Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation (CTHF) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Each year, the camp serves children ages 6-18 with permanent physical disabilities, including Navajo Nation children, offering a range of adaptive activities.
Camp Adventure offered a five-day experience where children with disabilities could participate in enriching and fun events tailored to their needs. Some of the kid’s favorite activities included wheelchair sports, remote control cars, arts and crafts, music, games, adaptive cycling and more. Each session was provided free of charge to families, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for all campers.
Qualified staff and volunteers
The camp’s qualified staff, comprised of experienced professionals working alongside passionate volunteers, provided instruction and encouragement to help campers explore their abilities and boost their independence. Cecelia Fred (pictured in photo below), paralyzed at the age of 8, and an Eve’s Fund team member, enjoyed volunteering and working one-on-one with the kids. She only wished “there had been something like that for her when she was young.”
Through their partnership, Eve’s Fund and CTHF aim to create an empowering environment where children can build confidence, enjoy new experiences, and form meaningful connections with others. By supporting Camp Adventure, both organizations are committed to nurturing health, happiness and personal growth for these children.
CTHF thanks Eve’s Fund
Helen Pino, Quality of Life Program Director and Camp Director offered this feedback: :”Eve’s Fund has been a remarkable supporter of the Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation’s Camp Adventure, creating transformative experiences for children with permanent disabilities, especially those living on or near the Navajo Nation. By helping to fund this program, Eve’s Fund has opened doors for these children to enjoy outdoor recreation, friendship-building, and self-discovery in a nurturing and inclusive environment.”
Everyone, young and old, had a wonderful and fun time.
Thanks to the ongoing support from our “Friends of Eve’s Fund,” we plan to continue our commitment to the well-being and empowerment of these young people, making Camp Adventure a unique and empowering opportunity for children with disabilities.
