Can you imagine your life without a good education? Can you imagine facing today’s world as a high school drop-out?
Nearly half of Native American students drop out of high school. Of those who graduate on time, only 5 percent go directly to four-year colleges. Most of these young people live in poverty and face enormous obstacles in their lives including lack of access to a quality education on the Reservation.
Goals, dreams and hopes for a bright future are in short supply.
For the past seven years, our Eve’s Fund Scholarship Program has changed that for some, by providing financial assistance to needy teens on the Navajo Nation. We have contributed support to students attending Navajo Preparatory School in Farmington, N.M. At this academically challenging residential high school, nearly 90% of the graduates go on to higher education.
To be eligible for assistance from Eve’s Fund, applicants must demonstrate financial need, scholastic potential, and leadership skills. Each Navajo Prep scholarship recipient receives $1,000 to cover the school’s required student fees.
For these students, a scholarship has made the difference between achieving a high school diploma and continuing their education or dropping out and living in poverty.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors and volunteers who helped us gain new supporters on #GivingTuesday, we have reached 81% of our 2017 Eve’s Fund holiday scholarship appeal. This year, if we reach our goal of $10,000, ten more promising students will be able to attend Navajo Prep School with the aim of graduating and continuing their education.
Your support can give these deserving young people a better future. Would you please consider helping us reach our goal by making a tax-deductible donation today? To protect your privacy, we do not publish the names of any of our donors.
