During the month of September, our ThinkFirst Navajo Injury Prevention Program increased its focus on educational programs that are keeping Navajo kids safe on the road.
National Child Passenger Safety Awareness Month
As part of National Child Passenger Safety Awareness Month and in collaboration with committed organizations such as Safe Kids Navajo Nation, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Navajo Department of Highway Safety, we have been promoting the universal use of child restraint seats across the Navajo Nation.
Car seats and boosters are one of the easiest ways to keep children safe and, when installed correctly, car seats can reduce the risk of fatal injury in a crash by 71% for infants and by 54% for toddlers.

Buckle Up Navajo Newborns
In response to statistics showing that Navajo newborns stand a 40% greater chance of dying in an automobile crash due to non-car seat use, Eve’s Fund launched an injury prevention program earlier this year called “Buckle Up Navajo Newborns.” Our goal is to provide funding and education to parents and grandparents who cannot otherwise afford to purchase seats for their children and/or may not even own a vehicle.
To date, we have donated 50 new car seats and hope to reach our goal of 100 by the end of 2019. You can read more about this program here.
The “Buckle Up Navajo Newborns” program will become a critical and ongoing Eve’s Fund initiative in the months and years ahead.
You can help us save a young child’s life!
We are grateful to all of the individuals and organizations that have generously supported us since Eve’s Fund was founded in 2005.
Our new “Buckle Up Navajo Newborns” initiative will require even greater funding to reach our goal of providing 100 infant seats a year to the Navajo Nation.
Every $75 donated will enable us to purchase and ship a new high-end car seat to the Navajo Nation and provide hands-on training on proper installation to caring parents and grandparents. If you believe in the importance of this cause, please consider making a donation toward this project. Let’s keep Navajo kids smiling, healthy and safe on the road.
