Eve’s Fund for Native American Health Initiatives has donated $5,000 to the “Navajo Nation COVID-19 Relief Fund” to help fight the pandemic that is ravaging the Navajo Nation. The donation represents the combined proceeds of many individual unrestricted gifts to Eve’s Fund from generous supporters of our work.
The Navajo Nation, the largest tribal reservation in the United States, has been hit hard by the coronavirus and currently has the third-highest COVID-19 infection rate per capita in the United States, after New York and New Jersey. Sadly, the number of deaths is disproportionately high and both young and old are being affected.
Today, May 5, 2020, is #GivingTuesdayNow—a new global day of giving and unity, as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. (This is in addition to the scheduled December 1, 2020 #GivingTuesday.) #GivingTuesdayNow provides an opportunity for people around the world to use their individual power of generosity to remain connected and to heal. Together, we can make a big difference, especially in the fight against the global pandemic, COVID-19.
Over the past month, through extensive worldwide news coverage, there has been a heightened awareness of how and why the coronavirus is spreading so quickly across the Navajo Nation, an area comprising about 16 million acres, or about 25,000 square miles (approximately the size of West Virgina), and spanning the corners of Arizona, New Mexico and Utah. We have posted a number of these news items on our Eve’s Fund Facebook Page and many of our followers have responded by making donations directly to Eve’s Fund with the expectation that we utilize their gifts where they are most needed across the Navajo Nation.
We’re sure you’ll agree there is no greater need among the Native American population we serve nor a better fit to the mission of Eve’s Fund. We are grateful for this opportunity to join the fight against the coronavirus in this vulnerable, at-risk population.
Please consider joining us in supporting the urgent needs of the people on the Navajo Nation through a tax-deductible donation to the Navajo Nation COVID-19 Relief Fund. To learn more and to donate, click on the photo or link below.
