Eve’s Fund will co-sponsor several sessions of Camp Adventure for children with special needs in New Mexico this summer.
We are partnering with the Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation (CTHF), based in Albuquerque, NM. and will be co-sponsoring several of their CAMP ADVENTURE day camp sessions, taking place near the Navajo Nation this summer. These adaptive camps, which will be provided free of charge to the families, are for children 6 to 19 years old living with permanent physical disabilities. Each camp session lasts for three days, and will surely be a highlight of the summer for the kids.
Camp activities include wheelchair sports, archery, remote control cars, arts & crafts, music, games, adaptive cycling, and much more. Most importantly, the kids will have fun and have an opportunity to realize their potential and possibilities. Camp Adventure’s qualified and well-trained staff, which includes dedicated and passionate volunteers, provides instruction and encouragement, and support to the campers and their parents and guardians.
Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation thanks Eve’s Fund
Connie Chavez, executive director of CTHF, in a letter of appreciation to Eve’s Fund wrote: “Eve’s Fund’s generosity and support of our camps in the Navajo Nation area will allow children with special needs to expand their abilities and independence. Providing opportunities to our children and supporting their families in their quest to nurture health and happiness is our priority. We sincerely thank you for joining us in this mission.”

Tribal Adaptive Organization Participates
In November of 2021, on what would have been our daughter Eve’s 47th birthday, we partnered with the Tribal Adaptive Organization and inaugurated our first Tribal Adaptive Student of the Year Athletic Scholarships. Tribal Adaptive uses sports as a tool to improve the health, wellness, and independence of Native American youth with life-altering disabilities. The organization’s development director, Jason Hotchkiss and several of the young people he mentors, in an effort to encourage more young people to become involved with adaptive sports, is volunteering at several of the Camp Adventure sessions, and he will oversee the wheelchair basketball training and games. Jason and his son, Noah Hotchkiss, founder of Tribal Adaptive, who is also an accomplished wheelchair basketball athlete at the collegiate level, are leaders in empowering Native Americans with disabilities to get involved in sports, especially in high school and college.
How you can help
There are several ways you can help us ensure the success of our newest community initiative. If you are local to New Mexico or nearby Arizona on the Navajo Nation, please contact our friends and partners at the Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation to volunteer as a camp counselor, or if you know of a child who might want to participate this summer or next.
We would like to be able to continue our support of this important adaptive camp program for special needs children every summer going forward, and with your help, we WILL make this happen. Your generosity will empower children with disabilities to reach for the stars and make lasting summer camp memories!
