With the support of our generous “Friends of Eve’s Fund,” we made an inaugural donation to the Heartbeat Music Project (HMP) in memory of Eve’s dad, the co-founder of Eve’s Fund, Robert M. Crowell, MD (“Doc”). HMP provides tuition-free music and Navajo cultural education to Diné students in grades K-12 on the campus of Navajo Technical University in Crownpoint, New Mexico.

This summer, students had the opportunity to study violin, viola, guitar, and keyboard, and engage in two new programs. HMP introduced a course on percussion led by Concert Artist Guild winner Britton-Rene Collins. HMP also introduced a new instruction titled “Musical Storytelling,” providing students the opportunity to write songs alongside playwright Jameel Martin and producer Brian Bibb.
The new courses were immensely popular, and the staff loved seeing students find confidence and joy through these mediums. Delbert Anderson and Connor Chee, two highly acclaimed Navajo musicians, were in residency as guest artists, greatly enhancing the program.

The HMP team expressed gratitude for our support which, in conjunction with sponsorship gifts from others, enabled the expansion of this year’s camp programming. We plan to support this program annually, marking the anniversary of “Doc’s” death.
We only wish that Bob and Eve could have participated in this remarkable music event!
