At the 2019 Shiprock Marathon, we ran, volunteered, and gave a massage to a hero—Navajo Code Talker, John Kinsel, Sr. Again this year, Eve’s Fund Team members actively participated in the 36th Shiprock Marathon weekend May 3-4, 2019. Navajo Preparatory School gave Eve's Fund an Award of Appreciation at its 2019 annual awards banquet held in May. Distracted Driving is an epidemic. Throughout this past month, our ThinkFirst Navajo Injury Prevention Program has joined forces with hundreds of other organizations to increase awareness of the perils of distracted driving. Our theme has been: "Just Drive!" Distracted driving kills and injures more than 440,000 people every year, with teens being the largest group involved in fatal crashes. ThinkFirst Navajo distributes safety helmets to Navajo school children in memory of neurosurgeon Erich Marchand
Last week, our Eve's Fund ThinkFirst Navajo Injury Prevention Program distributed and fitted 169 certified safety helmets to students in K-5th grades at the To'Hajiilee Community School in To'Hajillee, NM. This large helmet distribution was supported in part by family members of Dr. Erich Marchand and was dedicated to his memory.
