Last week, our Eve's Fund ThinkFirst Navajo Injury Prevention Program distributed and fitted 169 certified safety helmets to students in K-5th grades at the To'Hajiilee Community School in To'Hajillee, NM. Cecelia Fred, was named as a VIP (Voice for Injury Prevention) of the year, by the ThinkFirst National Injury Prevention Foundation at their annual conference in New Orleans on April 28, 2018. At just six years old, Cecelia Fred was accidentally shot in the spinal cord. She has been paraplegic ever since. As a child, she endured multiple operations to straighten her spine. She spent hours and hours in physical therapy to strengthen her upper body and prepare for life in a wheelchair. As an adult, Cecelia became an advocate for individuals with disabilities, especially those with spinal injuries.
